Microdermabrasion – Removing Skin Imperfections Effectively

Microdermabrasion has significantly increased in popularity over the past 10 years, being widely recognized as “The Way” to eliminate a number of different skin imperfections. From acne scars to fine wrinkles to sunspots and freckles, microdermabrasion can remove all of these in just a quick session or two.
So what is Microdermabrasion?

Microdermabrasion is a technique that is typically employed by a certified dermatologist. Microdermabrasion is a process that will exfoliate the skin’s very top layer of skin by use of aluminum oxide micro crystals. These crystals are gently and expertly “sandblasted” on the specified areas of your face, at which time they then removed any dead or damaged skin that allows for the newer, more youthful and healthier skin to appear.
Microdermabrasion is a fairly safe procedure and takes less than an hour to complete. A nice side effect to it is that it has also been found to stimulate the production of collage in our skin, so our skin will be enjoying anti-aging qualities as a result of this procedure.
Is Microdermabrasion for Everyone?
While it is a popular treatment, it is not necessarily the right treatment for everyone. It’s important that prior to the procedure you meet up with a professional so that they can help you determine whether or not it is the correct method of treatment for your skin. You can usually find licensed professionals in a dermatologist’s office, in salons, medical spas, or plastic surgery offices.
When you meet up for a consultation, you can expect to talk about your past medical history and what sort of medications you may be presently taking. If you have had any sort of “beauty”-related procedures performed in the past, make sure you talk about these too and gage their success. While you’re there, make sure you ask any outstanding questions that you may have as well.
How does Microdermabrasion Work?
After you have gone for a consultation and are deemed a good candidate for microdermabrasion, you will be laid down and asked to relax. The doctor will apply a cleansing gel to your skin to help prepare your skin for the “sandblasting” of aluminum oxide.
Then, the doctor will use a hand held device to blast that material onto your skin, and the device also sucks up any dead skin cells that will be conjured up and removed in the processed. The wand should be passed over your face in a consistent and even manner so that your skin has even treatment. This is important, for if it isn’t passed over your skin in a consistent manner your skin may differ in texture and color.
The procedure finishes with the doctor applying a sun block cream to your skin after treatment and you will be provided with the same moisturizing sunscreen to take home with you too. This will help both protect your skin and help allay any sort of discomfort you may feel. At this point you may experience some slight redness or stinging and itching of the skin, but this is short lived and will cause very minimal discomfort.
